O-A/BC-IG prom is ‘Red, White, Blue’

The Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove “Red, White and Blues” junior-senior prom is this Saturday, April 20, at Skate Palace.

Décor includes unique graphics of a lag, and the blues are actually denim. Denim will be used in table runners, and the blue jean pockets will be used to hold red loral arrangements on the tabletop and off the edge of the tables with lots of candles as centerpieces.

The skating rink will be enclosed with white pipe and drape and up-lit with red and blue. Some of the chair covers will be white this year with a mix of red and black linen tablecloths.

Open house to view the prom décor at Skate Palace is prior to the grand march from 2 to 4 p. m. After 4 p. m., the doors to Skate Palace will be closed to the public, and prom goers can arrive any time after 5:15 p. m.

The grand march begins at 4:50 p. m. at the Ida Grove Community Hall. Juniors, seniors and their dates are encouraged to visit the local nursing homes prior to arriving at their preassigned times. The public is invited to view the grand march in the community building, entering the hall from the east doors in the alley.  Doors open at 4:15 p. m., and junior valet dads will assist the attendees entering the west doors, with parking reserved only for the juniors, seniors and dates.

The reception at the Skate Palace will feature appetizers and sparkling cider offered by the sophomore servers. Prom servers are Payton Allen, Tyler Andrews, Connor Christiansen, Jonathon Collins, Presley Cranston, Claudia Devitt, Darian Ernst, Jessica Gunderson, Erin Hallenbeck, Madison Hemer, Kent Krager, Jacob Luft, Karlie Mandernach, Lexi Petersen, Derrick Wessel and Cash Wilcke.

They have a group photo at 4:30 p. m. and then start their duties, serving until the call to dinner at 7 p. m. They are assigned tables, and prom goers are encouraged to tip their servers for their service.

The prom dinner begins at 7 p. m., followed by a program at 8:30 p. m. The Sac County Cattlemen are grilling for the banquet.

Junior committee members have been working on a special senior video tribute. The dance begins at 9 p. m. and ends at midnight. After-prom begins at the O-A/BC-IG High School following the dance.

After-prom activities will be held at the high school from 12:30 to 5 a. m.
Activities in the gym from 12:30 to 3 a. m. include sumo wrestling, Velcro wall, bungee run, obstacle course and games.

From 3 to 4 a. m., hypnotist Alan Sands will perform, and from 4 to 5 a. m., gifts will be handed out.

There will be pulled pork, subs, pizza, taco in a bag and an ice cream bar.

Kathleen Gunderson is the prom sponsor, with assistance from Karen Cranston, Jean Snyder, Traci Bengford and junior moms.
