Odebolt cleanup is May 16

Odebolt’s annual cleanup day is Thursday, May 16. All items must be on the curb by 8 a. m. Items not allowed include toxic materials, no recyclables, no yard waste (leaves, branches, etc.), no carpets and no building materials.

The following items require a fee and must be taken by the owner to the Odebolt maintenance building site at 401 W Market St. (Hwy 175 West). An attendant will be on hand to receive the items on Friday, May 17, from 8 a. m. to 4 p. m., and Saturday, May18, from 8 a. m. to noon. Fees are: appliances–$15; TVs–$20; computer monitors–$10; and tires–$5 to $15.

Senior citizens may call city hall to request help from O-A/ BC-IG Ag students to carry items to the maintenance building. Call 668-2231 by noon on Monday, May 13.

School Retirees

O-A Elementary/O-A/BC-IG Middle School librarian Joann Sykes will retire at the end of the current school year. She has served as O-A librarian for 39 years.

O-A/BC-IG High School guidance counselor Mary Schroeder is retiring at the end of the school year after 30 years in the education field. She taught home economics at Odebolt-Arthur, Ida Grove, Schleswig and Denison-Schleswig and more recently was guidance counselor for Odebolt-Arthur and the OA-BC/IG schools.

The latest edition of the Iowa Travel Guide is now available to assist travelers in planning an Iowa vacation. The guide is free and may be ordered by phone at 800.345.IOWA or from
www.traveliowa.com. An online version of the guide is available on the website.  People may also pick one up at any Iowa Welcome Center.  [Odebolt is listed in the northwest Iowa section.]

The four-color guide is Iowa’s comprehensive, trip-planning publication, with listings from more than 700 attractions, 550 hotels, 160 bed and breakfasts and 400 campgrounds, in addition to information on state parks, trails and scenic byways.
