Nancy Marlene (Wallace) Murdoch, age 60, of Kaycee, WY, passed away early Sunday morning at her home. She was born on Sept. 22, 1954, in Enid, Oklahoma, to William and Gloria Wallace. She moved as a child to Odebolt, Iowa, where she grew up and went to school. She graduated from Odebolt High School with the class of 1972.

Dennis E. Gustafson, age 79, a resident Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt since 2002, died Sunday morning, April 19, 2015, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, Kiron. A private family inurnment was held at the Kiron Cemetery.

OA-BCIG drama department to present ‘Virgil Wins the Lottery’
O-A/BC-IG High School will present “Virgil Wins the Lottery” this Saturday, April 25, at 7 p. m., in the high school cafetorium. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Everyone dreams of striking it rich by winning the lottery, except for Virgil’s wife, Margaret. Margaret thinks it’s a waste of money until Virgil wins the $10,000 Lickskillit lottery. As soon as Margaret and Virgil get the news, Virgil quits his job, they join the posh (well, posh for Lickskillit) social club and overnight start living in high cotton.
And then, they get more news: They didn’t actually win the $10,000 lottery. Shamefully exposed, Margaret and Virgil start eating crow and learn that life is good, with or without the winnings, and then they get the biggest surprise of all. Whitney Frank-Simonson directs the play.

Superintendent search schedule set
The superintendent search schedule has been finalized for the BC-IG and O-A School Boards. Dr. Nick Ouellette has resigned his superintendent position, effective June 30. Jeff Herzberg of Prairie Lakes AEA has been hired to lead the search.
Applications will be received April 17 –May 1, and background checks will be completed.
Focus groups will gather during the day on Friday, April 24, to gather input on the characteristics of the next superintendent, go over the schedule and learn about interview process. Focus groups include the boards, administration, teachers and support staff, students and community.
On Tuesday, May 12, at 7 a. m., about 10 candidates will be presented to the boards, and members will select three to four finalists to interview.
Finalist interviews will be set for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 19 and 20. Candidates will rotate through all six groups who are conducting the interviews.
Excerpts from April 9th Odebolt City Council Meeting
The Odebolt City Council approved the second readings for water and garbage resident rate increases April 9. The increases will take effect with the June billing.
The water rate would increase from $13 to $19 for the first 1,000 gallons used each month.
The garbage residential rate would increase from $11.25 a month to $11.75 a month. For commercial, industrial and institutional premises, the rate will be set on an individual basis, but a minimum of $13 a month shall be charged.
The council approved hiring the following pool staff as recommended by the recreation committee: Lauren Beckman (CPO/pool manager), lifeguards—Emily Beckman, Kady Bengford, Rachelle Duff, Madison Hemer, Sadie Railsback, Kallie Schroeder, Whitney Simonson, Riley Snyder, Jake Wulf, Elle McCormick and Morgan Venteicher, and basket personnel—Dakota Powell, Hannah Sorensen, Cheyanne Marron and Cameron Webb.
The recreation committee met twice in March and determined the goal for fund-raising is to resurface/repaint basin of pool, which would cost approximately $15,000-$16,000, according to Tysor. The main goal is to maintain the facilities so it remains open for the kids. Fund-raising ideas included: selling t-shirts, water bottles or swim bags with a pool design. The pool party fund-raiser is set for Aug. 5.
ONRC Auxiliary members make plans for May 13 bazaar
The Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center Auxiliary met April 16. Assisted living coordinator Jill Grote reported there is one apartment available to rent.
Monday, May 11, the balloon liftoff is at 2:15 p. m., with the community ice cream social to follow. Wednesday, May 13, is the bazaar and community cookout from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

OA-BCIG Superintendent Search Committee: The school is looking for citizens who would like to provide input on the characteristics of the next Superintendent of the OA & BCIG Community Districts.
