EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK
MAY 20-26, 2012

Governor Terry E. Branstad will sign a proclamation declaring May 20-26, 2012 as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in Iowa. EMS Week is an opportunity to honor the vital essential public health function of EMS, which provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s “front line safety net.”

As part of this recognition, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds will read the Governor’s proclamation as a part of a ceremony while at the Brooklyn Fire and Ambulance Service building, 400 E. Pershing Dr. in Brooklyn, Iowa, beginning at 10am on Tuesday, May 22nd.

There are more than 12,000 certified EMS providers in Iowa, and more than half of them are volunteers. Providing prompt access to quality emergency medical services dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury in Iowa.
