Season opens Friday - O-A/BC-IG girls gear up to defend state title
The O-A/BC-IG girls’ basketball team is gearing up for another run at the class 2A state tournament in late February. The Falcons are familiar with the road to Des Moines as the squad has been to state the last three seasons including winning the state title in class 2A last season.
The repeat quest begins this Friday when the Falcons host Ridge View in a non-conference junior varsity/varsity girls only double header at 6 p. m. In addition to this Friday’s game against Ridge View, O-A/BC-IG will play Newell-Fonda at 6:30 p. m. this Saturday in the Storm Lake High School Jamboree.
The Falcons return nine letter winners including three starters from last season’s 26-0 team. In addition to posting a perfect record last season, the Falcons won the north division of the Western Valley Conference with a 7-0 record and the conference tournament.
Scholarship fund-raiser— O-A/BC-IG hoop teams host Pride Scrimmage
O-A/BC-IG is participating in the Iowa Hall of Pride’s new community service initiative, the “Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge.”
The Falcon boys and girls varsity basketball teams will host MV-A-O in a “Pride Scrimmage” on Friday, Nov. 25 at 6 p. m. at the O-A/BC-IG High School gym in Ida Grove.
As part of the Pride Challenge, all participating schools have identified a community service project that is meaningful to their school and community. O-A/BC-IG has selected the Dollars for Scholars initiative. Gate admission fees and concession stand money, less a $250 contribution to the Richard Jacobson Education Fund at the Iowa Hall of Pride, from the local Pride Scrimmage will go to the O-A/BC-IG Scholarship Foundation.
The contribution to the Jacobson fund will be used to further the Hall of Pride’s mission to “educate the future” through their educational programs and work with students and schools across the state.
Because this is a fund-raiser, gate passes will not be accepted for the scrimmage.
The scrimmage counts as one of the three allotted basketball scrimmages schools are allowed to play under normal game conditions, although the game does not count on a team’s record.
The Iowa Hall of Pride, located in Des Moines, opened to the public on February 23, 2005. The interactive museum features dozens of exhibits that engage the visitor in experiencing the stories of Iowa’s communities and their heroes.
