Richland School to be moved Tuesday, October 18

An original rural Odebolt school house that dates back to 1883, is being moved to 2nd Street in downtown Odebolt as part of a restoration project. Carol Raasch, chair of the Steering Committee for the Rural Legacy Project of Odebolt, says the building, formerly the Richland Number One Schoolhouse, will be restored to its original coloring and look, and it will be used as a classroom, and also will feature a museum. . . .

. . . The building is scheduled to be moved into downtown Odebolt on Tuesday October 18th.  It is hoped the museum will be ready sometime next summer, depending on how much work they get done through the winter.

Here is what Carol Raasch sent:
Dear Folks:
Here is the latest, with a pretty solid decision (barring weather delays):
The MOVE of the school house to Odebolt is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 18. The start time here at my place would be around 9:00 a.m.   The location is at 1870 290th Street, Odebolt Iowa.  General directions  .....4 miles north of Odebolt or 9 miles south of highway 20 on M43 ...turn east on 290th street and go East 1 1/2 mile.  That is the start point.

The ROUTE planned now, to miss some electrical wiring, is to travel across our harvested corn field to the east to Hope Avenue a half mile and start south once back onto the gravel road at approximately 2930 Hope Avenue.  The movers will travel south....and from there I don't know the entrance into Odebolt, but I would guess county road blacktop, M43.

Any questions for me, please call.  I will notify you of any major variances on this plan.
