Richland school Move: (Photo caption)
DNC Movers of Hornick moved the Richland #1 schoolhouse from the Curt and Carol Raasch farm north of Odebolt to its new location on Second Street in Odebolt. The move is the building’s second since retiring as a schoolhouse and 4-H meeting place. It originally was located at the corner of 290th Street and Gard Avenue, four miles north and east of Odebolt. In 1954, it was purchased and moved by Harold Boney and used for livestock housing. The schoolhouse will get a facelift in anticipation of its new life as a rural school and Iowa history museum.
Horn Memorial Foundation plans for the 12th annual Fall Festival
(Excerpts) The Horn Memorial Hospital Foundation is planning its 12th Annual Festival set for Friday, Nov. 4, at Skate Palace in Ida Grove. The evening will include cocktails, dinner, auctions and entertainment.
The foundation board has been making strides in raising funds for the purchase of a digital mammography unit and is anticipating that this year’s fall festival will be the last organized fund-raising event scheduled for digital mammography. The hospital hopes to have secured enough funds by early 2012 to order the new machine.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive between 5:30 and 6 p.m. to see the table decorations and silent auction items. Dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. followed by the live auction and the performance by The Chicago Cabaret Project, led by Kyle Hustedt of Odebolt.
The Chicago Cabaret Project was incorporated in 2007 and has been entertaining audiences at various venues throughout the Chicago area. In addition to providing entertainment through a talented network of performers, they are sure to put on a witty cabaret show appropriate for the family. The evening will raise both awareness of breast cancer and funds for state-of-the-art mammography equipment for Horn Memorial Hospital.
Presale tickets are $50 each and available through Monday, Oct. 31, at Horn Memorial Hospital or call 712-364-3311.
