SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION SEPTEMBER 13
Voters in the Odebolt-Arthur School District will be voting on a reorganization measure with Battle Creek-Ida Grove, to form Odebolt-Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove Community School District. The proposed new school board will be comprised of seven members, with two directors coming from the Odebolt-Arthur School District board, four directors from the Battle Creek-Ida Grove School District board, and one member chosen by those six board members. If the measure passes, the district plans to set up six districts within the new district's boundaries, and directors will have to live within those boundaries. A seventh board member will be elected by an at-large vote.
If the measure is passed, the new district will start on July 1, 2012.
This week's Chronicle has write-ups about the candidates and a lively discussion of the reorganization issue in letters to the editor written by both proponents and opponents of the measure. There are also ads paid for by the OABCIG Vote Yes Committee and the Concerned Patrons of the Odebolt-Arthur School District, who urge a "no" vote.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Over the past month, you may have noticed a number of new holes, bulky equipment, and rolls of orange cable along the streets of Odebolt. These are the tools of North Central Service, whose men have been hired by your local Sac County Mutual Telephone Company. They are working to replace your current telephone cable system.
The existing telephone cable in Odebolt was installed circa 1930-1960. At the time, each individual cable was wrapped in paper and the lines were fit through the Odebolt sewer system. They provided many productive years of telephone service as well as recent internet connections.
Unfortunately, the cables do not last forever. After experiencing telephone and internet outages the past few years, the Board unanimously decided to replace the old cable with new fiber optic that will service every business and home in the town of Odebolt. They expect to complete phase one of the project in September. Please be cautious as you drive through the area and remind your children to stay clear of their equipment.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call. Ron, Gary, Jake and Melissa are available Monday - Friday to help with your telephone and internet needs.
