August Odebolt Museum Minutes

August 24, 2011
Members of the Historical Museum met on August 24, 2011 at 7:10 p.m. with the following members present – Kathy Larson, Marilyn King. Eleanor Petersen, Phyllis Kies, Thelma Schroeder, Verna Mae Schwaller, Rebecca Ullrich, Renae Babcock, and Mary Schroeder.  Two guests attended the meeting – Deb Reinhart and Stephanie Fleenor.

President Kathy Larson called the meeting to order.  The Secretary’s report was approved as read.  The Treasurer’s report was presented and approved.

Old Business – Kathy shared samples of the photo pages that we can order to preserve the items received from the Betty Raasch estate.  It was decided to order 200 to get a good start on the project.

Darin Mohr is planning to install the second story windows soon.  Hopefully this will get rid of the bat problem.

The museum is still in need of vintage children’s clothing – dresses, little overalls, coats, etc.  If any would like to donate any items, please contact any museum member.

The museum recently received a legal notice of the items to be donated from the Roland Linman Estate.

New Business – Stephanie Fleenor shared how she is in the process of scanning and indexing all the obituaries and marriage announcements from the Betty Raasch Estate.  She will place all items on CDs which will be very easy for anyone wanting to do genealogical research.  The museum is very appreciative to Stephanie for graciously volunteering to do this.

Phyllis Kies shared with the members several items she has recently donated to the museum.  Phyllis gave many interesting facts that went with the items she donated.  A United States flag with 48 stars was recently donated from P.D. Gronemeyer.  Several annuals were recently donated from Jim and Dorothy Barkley.

Discussion was held on the need to get old issues of The Odebolt Chronicle on CD.  The museum receives many requests from individuals wanting information from the old issues.  The issues are getting to be in such brittle condition that something needs to be done to preserve them.  It was also discussed the need to look into getting a good used computer for the museum, for the use of people to view information put on CDs.

Carol Auen has an old piano in her home that she would like to donate to the museum.  The piano was originally used in the Odebolt School by former teachers such as Martha Kennedy and Phyllis Kies.  Several members are going to look into getting it moved to the museum.

The next meeting will be a date to be determined in spring 2012.  Meeting adjourned – 7:45 p.m.

Secretary
Mary Schroeder
