9-13-11 Election Results - School Board & Consolidation

Thanks to Vicki Beckman for sending in the results of yesterday's (September 13, 2011) School Board Election and Consolidation Public Measure.

This is how the votes for the O-A district turned out by the two voting sites plus the absentee ballots.

  1. This is the way it should have gone! Consolidation at this point makes no sense. The kids are already receiving a top-notch education through whole-grade sharing. Actually, OA kids have received an excellent education for years. Efficiencies have also been provided through whole-grade sharing. (Although they could have been done with better financial management by the superintendent and board of education.) There is no reason to combine finances. With OA and BCIG each maintaining their own school boards and their own finances, each district will continue to have equal say on matters. The only thing consolidation would have done is to make the superintendents job easier. Why would we want to do that? Her consistent pushing for something that residents of both districts clearly do not want should have her thinking about her letter of resignation. Not consolidating allows OA to continue (or reignite) talks with other districts. If the State continues to force consolidation among our small, rural schools, through "incentive money," staying in Sac County would make more sense academically, geographically, and realistically for OA.
