Rescue Practice for Area Firemen
With harvest just around the corner, area firemen came to Odebolt on August 22 to practice the Grain Tube Escape at the elevator.  Last December, Farmers Coop Elevator of Odebolt donated the rescue equipment to the Odebolt, Ida Grove, Newell, Lytton, Early and Sac City fire departments.


Sac County Century Farms were recognized on August 13 at the Iowa State Fair.  Awards were presented to families that have owned Iowa farmland for 100 years or more.  Awards were presented by Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill and Vice President Joe Heinrich.

Each of these families received a Century Farm award for their area farm:

Larry Berg, Marilyn Johnson, Karilyn Schlappie and Elaine Neumann, accompanied by their families; farm established in 1881 near Kiron.

Buehler Farms, Inc.; Roger Buehler and Duane Buehler and their families were present to accept the award; farm established in 1911 near Odebolt.

Ronald and Jeannine Lange, accompanied by their family; farm established in 1910 near Odebolt.

Walter E. and Janie R. Miller; farm established in 1910 near Kiron.

Brian and Denise Nieland, accompanied by their family; farm established in 1913 near Wall Lake.

Paul and Connie Nieland; farm established in 1896 near Wall Lake.

The Schulte Family Farm; established in 1879 near Wall Lake.  Marylou Schulte-Ahrens, Larry Schulte, Ted Schulte, Dick Schulte, Mark Schulte, Denis Schulte and Colette Schulte were listed in the program.
