City council filing underway
Persons interested in running for open seats on area city councils could begin filing nomination papers Aug. 26.
Papers are available from and may be filed with city clerks and must contain a minimum of 10 signatures of eligible voters from that community.
In Odebolt, Mayor Ron Rex and councilmen Keith Flink and Mike Hoefling have expiring terms. As of Monday both Flink and Hoefling had taken out papers for their council seats, and Butch Hemphill had taken out papers for the mayoral position.
The deadline to return signed nomination papers is Thursday, Sept. 19.
The voter preregistration deadline is Friday, Oct. 25.
The election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Odebolt receives grant awards
Iowa Savings Bank of Carroll, trustee of the Gilbert and Barbara Renze Foundation, announced its 2013 cycle grant awards.
Odebolt was the recipient of two grants: $6,406 for pool equipment and $2,664 for windows for the Peterson Pioneer home.
The Gilbert and Barbara Renze Foundation has granted a total of $276,009 for charitable purposes in Sac and Carroll Counties since the foundation was established four years ago.

Sac County Quilt-A-Fair will feature 375 entries
At the SAC COUNTY FAIR GROUNDS

It is one month and counting until the Sac County Quilt-AFair on Sept. 21-22.
Jo Scharn of Lytton enters all the individual quilt forms into a database that produces the lists and forms necessary for the show. “There are 375 entries this year,” said Scharn. “The entries range in size from an 8-inches x 10-inches,quilted child’s book to king-sized bed quilts measuring 120 inches,” she added.
Visitors will have opportunities to see a large number of quilts in most of the entry categories: miniatures, wall hangings, table quilts, bed quilts, baby quilts, vintage or antique quilts, holiday quilts and patriotic quilts, in addition to the Quilts of Valor. There are also a few entries for the wearable or accessory quilts
