Retirement Party for Library Director
A retirement party will be held for Donarae Cleveland, director of the library for the past 15 1/2 years on Friday, September 27 from 3-5 p.m. at the Odebolt Library. Congratulations, Donarae!

Persons who have taken out papers for Odebolt Mayor and Odebolt City Council are:

Council: Mike Hoefling, Keith Flink, Lee Hemer, Jeff Holmes
Mayor Ron Rex and councilmen Keith Flink and Mike Hoefling have expiring terms. The final date to file papers was Thursday, September 19. The voter preregistration deadline is Friday, Oct. 25. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Voters elect new board members
Area voters went to the polls Sept. 10 and elected eight new board members and four incumbents. At O-A, Joey Hoefling of Odebolt and incumbent Naomi Lozier of Arthur were elected to the board. At O-A, unofficial results were Hoefling, 223 votes; Lozier, 112 votes; Brad Lundell (incumbent), 106; and Ron Meier, 94.
Van Houtens purchase funeral homes
Joshua and Christie Van Houten of Ida Grove have purchased the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes from Scott and Connie Huffman. The change in ownership, which includes the funeral homes in Battle Creek, Ida Grove and Odebolt, was effective Aug. 29.
Joshua is a native of Battle Creek. He graduated in 2001 as a dual-enrolled student of BC-IG. He continued his schooling at Western Iowa Technical Community College (WITCC) in Sioux City and completed his mortuary science schooling at Kansas City Kansas Community College in Kansas City, Kan., in 2004.
Josh worked at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home throughout high school. He was employed at Meyer Brothers Funeral Homes in Sioux City for eight years and at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Homes for the last five years.
The funeral home’s name will be changing from Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes to Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Homes. The contact phone numbers have remained the same for the three funeral home locations.
The Van Houtens noted the funeral homes will continue to be family owned and operated by the Van Houtens and serve Battle Creek, Ida Grove and Odebolt communities with the highest level of professional and compassionate care.
Any prearranged and/or prefunded funeral plans that were purchased through the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes have been transferred in the sale and will be honored under the same terms in which they were purchased
Sac Quilt-A-Fair celebrates barns, quilts Saturday and Sunday
The Sac County Quilt-A-Fair is set for this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at the Sac County Fairgrounds.
The tractors will start arriving at 7:30 a. m. Saturday to register for the first Sac County Barn Quilt Tractor Ride. The quilt vendors and volunteers will be in place for a 9 a. m. opening of the quilt show buildings, and the Kiwanis food stand will open.
There is a $7 admission to the quilt show buildings. The buildings will close each day at 4 p. m.
On Sunday, classic cars will replace the tractors on the fairgrounds. Registration for the car show will start at 9 a. m.
A Belgian waffle meal at the Chautauqua building will be from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m., sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.
