Iowa Rural Schools Museum Now Open

With renovations complete, Odebolt school museum unveiled in downtown

In 2011, an old building moved into downtown Odebolt, Iowa. From 1883 until 1951, it was a school house. Then, it became a 4H meeting place, before being converted into a livestock building on a farm.
So, as you can imagine the years of wear and tear meant that restoring the old structure would take some work. Now, nearly two years later, those efforts are complete and the city is ready to show off its final product.

Iowa Rural Schools Museum   The Richland #1 rural school house was moved from the country to 2nd Street in Odebolt  in October 2011 and has been furnished with country school memorabilia and history from the Odebolt area as well as throughout Iowa. The new museum is located on the south side of 2nd Street in downtown Odebolt, across from the Odebolt Historical Museum and next to the Peterson Pioneer Home.

The sculpture, "Time for School", was unveiled June 15, 2013 during the Grand Opening Ceremonies for the Iowa Rural Schools Museum.  This delightful life-sized sculpture of children is by Dr. William Faller, nationally known for his country school works.
