One of the ads in this week's Chronicle is for the new business which opened on Creek Day, June 15: Two Peaz in a Pod dba Alley Antiques. It's at 222 S. Main Street BEHIND Shear Magic. The entrance is the second door in the alley, and hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm.
I stopped in on opening day and was pleased to find a wide variety of antiques and collectibles, all beautifully displayed.
According to local historian Harvey Keller, there used to be businesses in Odebolt with alley entrances. I searched The Odebolt History Pages and found this excerpt from Dorothy Groman's book about her Odebolt childhood, My Family in Iowa, 1878-1949: "There were…several saloons--which in my day, since Iowa was supposed to be a dry state, were called "blind pigs" (closed in front but entered via the alley)--"
