Drake unseats incumbent supervisor
Ranell Drake of Odebolt defeated incumbent Sac County District 1 Supervisor Jack Bensley (R) of Odebolt in the Nov. 6 general election, according to unofficial election results. Drake received 893 votes to Bensley’s 664.

A total of 74.43 percent of Sac County’s 7,133 registered voters voted in this year’s election.

District 1 includes the cities of Schaller, Odebolt and Early and the townships of Eureka, Eden, Cook, Boyer Valley, Richland and Wheeler.

Republican incumbents James W. Dowling (auditor) and Ken McClure (sheriff) were uncontested. Dowling received 4,255 votes and McClure garnered 4,358 votes.

In the Republican contest for District 6, State Senator Mark Segebart (R) received 3,275 votes, to Mary C. Bruner’s (D) 1,751 votes.

Incumbent Steve King (R) of Kiron garnered 3,355 votes for the U. S. Representative District 4 seat. Challenger Christie Vilsack (D) received 1,778 votes.

Incumbent District 11 State Representative Gary Worthan (R) received 3,956 votes.

Tiffany Mohr received 97 votes for Richland Township trustee, Patrick J. Scanlan received 71 votes for Wheeler Township trustee and Duane J. Ziegmann received 36 votes for Levey Township trustee.

Odebolt pastor to retire Jan. 15
Rev. Mark Volkers, of First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, the past six years, has announced his retirement effective Jan. 15 and will be moving to Sioux Falls, S. D. He was ordained 40 years ago.

His community service has included Rotary, Odebolt-Arthur High School jazz band, secretary/treasurer of the OAK Ministerial Association, an extra in “Peacock,” living nativity, serving at soup suppers, weekly visits to the ONRC, Creek Days’ carnival and tennis.

Rev. Volkers and his wife, Jean, of 42 years have three grown children: Candy, Debby and husband, Joey, and their four children and son, Tim, and his wife, Marianna, and their three children.
