Odebolt receives endowment grant

The City of Odebolt received a $4,559 Sac County Endowment Foundation grant to move the Peterson Pioneer home to the historical square.

The Peterson Pioneer Home, located on Walnut Street, is the oldest home in Odebolt that is as it was originally built. Nils and Mary Peterson came to Odebolt from Sweden in 1885 and purchased the lot for $100. The house was built in 1886. The town of Odebolt was laid out and lots were sold in 1877.

Plans are to move the Peterson Pioneer Home to the educational, historical square across from the Odebolt Museum, historic Adams Bank and next to the Richland #1 Country School House.  

An omelet brunch will be held Sunday, March 18, 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Odebolt Community Center to raise money to move the home downtown. Donations may also be sent to:

A total of $56,689 in grants was awarded this year to eight entities.

OA/BCIG Girls Basketball

The OA/BCIG girls’ basketball team finished the regular season the same way it started the 2011-12 season. The team is ranked number one in the state in class 2A in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s rankings released Thursday.

OA/BCIG topped I-K-M Manning 68-64 in overtime to win the girls Western Valley Conference basketball tournament championship game Monday, Feb. 6. They finished the regular season with a 21-0 record. The team was on a 47-game winning streak entering regional tournament play.
