In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be forwarded to the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt on Margaret's behalf.

Margaret died Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center. At the time of her death we were blessed with her for 92 years, 1 month, and 8 days.

Margaret Rose (Zuber) McGonigle was born on March 20, 1922 in Geneva, New York. She was the second oldest child of Fritz and Frieda (Odermott) Zuber. From the age of 3, she was reared in Chicago with her two younger brothers, Henry and Bob.

Margaret met Don McGonigle in 1945 while he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Base. On January 25, 1947, they were married in Chicago, Illinois. Two days later, Don brought Margaret to Odebolt for their honeymoon where they decided to stay and raise their family. Don and Margaret operated the D&E Café through the birth of their first three children Dick, Jim and Julie, with Vickie soon to follow. Margaret always loved living in Odebolt. She brought her younger brother Bob to Odebolt for the last couple years of his high school. Margaret was reunited with her biological father and oldest brother at age 38, and she remained in close contact with them until their death.

Margaret kept her faith a big part of her daily life. She loved watching Biblical movies and was a very active member of the Odebolt Presbyterian Church. She was a Deacon, the first female elder on the session, superintendent and teacher of the Sunday School. She served on the finance Committee, the head of the Martha Guild, and Moderator of Presbyterian Women. She also loved to make quilts with the guild and enjoyed the countless hours she spent cleaning the old bricks for re-use when they remodeled the church. Margaret also enjoyed sewing, quilting, tube painting, crocheting, drawing, and playing cards with her family and friends. She volunteered her sewing talents at the Odebolt Nursing Home for decades. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rebecca Lodge, but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After Don passed away, Margaret sponsored a child overseas for several years.

Margaret moved into the Odebolt Assisted Living in 2010, and then resided in the Odebolt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until she went home to meet her Lord. SEARLES, BARBARA (ADAMS)
April 8, 1919 -  February 22, 2014

Barbara ("Bobbie") Adams Searles, 94, of Davenport, Iowa died peacefully at her home on February 22, 2014.
A family memorial service will be held privately in the spring at the Adams' farm gravesite in Odebolt, Iowa. There, in northwest Iowa, Bobbie grew up on her grandparents' and parents' Fairview Farm.

Barbara was born to Robert and Jessie Adams on April 8, 1919. She was the youngest child with two older brothers, Robert and William. She drove her pony cart from the farm for her elementary schooling in Odebolt. She also loved raising litters of AKC dogs and being involved in 4H. She graduated from high school at the Madeira School in Virginia and from college from Sarah Lawrence in New York City. During summers, she showed her father's harness and saddle horses throughout the nation.

After college at the onset of WWII, Barbara worked for the Red Cross in San Francisco and met her husband of 68 years, John ("Jack") Searles, who was then a commander in the Navy. They were married in Miami Beach, Florida on February 23, 1946 and raised their family of three children in Davenport, Iowa. She is survived by her son John and his wife Anne, daughter Susan, daughter Sally and her husband Budge, and her seven grandchildren. She was especially fond of her grandchildren Nick, Chris, Tiana and her husband Nathan, Andrew, Abigail, Jessie and Kippy.

Barbara served on the Board of the Tri-City Symphony and the Colonial Dames, was a member of Chapter LM of PEO, and an officer of the Tri-City Garden Club. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining with elegance and generosity. She and her family spent winter vacations in Boca Grande, Florida where she made lifelong companions. She and her husband with their relatives Bob and Jessie Searles bought their first sailboat in 1980 and sailed it from Annapolis, Maryland down the east coast to Naples. They continued sailing as an extended family for two decades.

Although Barbara loved to travel, her mainstay was her home and garden in Davenport where she opened her doors graciously to a host of family and friends. They will remember her for her favorite recipes, sharp memory of people and faces, fun stories, and down-to-earth humor. As she said, "You can educate and dress me up, but you can't get the farm girl out of me."

Mrs. Searles' husband Jack preceded her in death a year ago last spring. She is survived not only by her children and grandchildren, but also her close relatives: Dorothy, Cynthia, Elizabeth and Margo Adams and their families as well as Judy, Peggy, Bobby and Bunny Searles and their children.

The Searles family gives thanks to all the caregivers who made Barbara's later life comfortable, especially to Betty Pinter who was faithful to her for nearly twenty years.
