Christmas and New Year from Years Past

In years gone by, how did people who lived in Odebolt and the surrounding area celebrate Christmas and the New Year?  What were the year's newsworthy events 25, 50 or 75 years ago?

For many years, the first issue of The Chronicle published after Christmas had accounts of who visited whom over the holidays, plus a summary of the year's news.  There's also a link below to an issue of The Odebolt News, a paper which was published from 1914 to 1927.

Read just one page, or read the entire issue of the newspapers linked below.  Look for this in the upper right corner of the page:

Click the black downward arrowhead to display the page numbers, then click on a page number.  OR, you can click on the right-pointing white arrow to advance to the next page of that issue.

To search for a name, click the magnifying glass icon in the black bar at the top left of the page.  Type the name or word you're searching for in the drop-down search box, then look for the highlighted text in the newsprint.  You may need to scroll down the newspaper page to find the text.

Explore the other icons on the black bar at the top of the page; just rest your cursor on each one to display its name or function.

Of course, you need not limit your browsing of historic Odebolt newspapers to the links we've provided.  You can perform your own searches in the Digital Archives of the Odebolt Public Library and the Odebolt Historical Museum.  Here's that link:
