Parade is Thursday 6 p. m.—
O-A/BC-IG students celebrate homecoming


O-A/BC-IG High School is celebrating homecoming this week with a variety of activities. This year’s theme is “We Own the Night.”

Thursday, Sept. 25, is Character Day with students dressing up as their favorite television character.

At 5 p. m., United Bank of Iowa will be grilling in front of Family Eye Care with proceeds going to the athletic boosters. Staging for the parade begins at 5:30 p. m. on Second Street from Quimby to Jasper.

The homecoming parade gets underway at 6 p. m. The parade will travel east on Second Street from Quimby to Main and turn south on Main to Fourth Street. From 5 to 7 p. m., the public is asked to not park on the parade route.

This year’s grand marshals are Al Schmidt of Arthur and Michael Hedden of Odebolt, longtime O-A and O-A/BC-IG High School teachers and wrestling coaches.

At 7 p. m., coronation takes place in the gym. This year’s king candidates are: Alex Dewey, son of Joe and Kristi Dewey; Darian Ernst, son of Ryan and Jenni Ernst; Tanner Hemer, son of Don and Tami Hemer; Jacob Luft, son of Mike Luft and Michele Luft; Wesley Swanger, son of Richie and Kourtney Swanger; and Nolan Warnke, son of Bret and Linda Warnke.

The queen candidates are: Presley Cranston, daughter of Scott and Deanna Cranston; Claudia Devitt, daughter of Jon and Robin Devitt; Anna Dewey, daughter of Joe and Kristy Dewey; Olivia Freese, daughter of Kurt and Rita Freese; Madison Hemer, daughter of Dave and Diane Hemer; and Stephanie Maass, daughter of Barry and Susan Maass.

Super class night competitions begin at 8 p. m. and include: the pyramid, football throw, obstacle course, inner tube race, Paul Revere race and tug of war.

Friday is Spirit Day (with students and faculty wearing black, purple and silver). Students are reminded that they cannot wear face paint, body paint or masks.

Friday activities include: 2:45 p. m. powderpuff football at the high school football field, 5:30 p. m. athletic booster grilling, 6:45 p. m. the homecoming court will be introduced at the stadium and 7 p. m. the homecoming football game against the Ridge View Raptors. The homecoming dance is from 9:30 to 11:30 p. m. in the high school cafeteria.

O-A board approves air unit bid

The Odebolt-Arthur School Board approved a bid for an HVAC system for Bart Ogden Gymnasium Monday during a special meeting.

Hemer’s Plumbing and Heating of Odebolt had the low bid of $43,000. Drees Plumbing and Heating of Carroll submitted a $51,400 bid for the project.

The HVAC system includes four 95-percent-efficient gas furnaces and four air conditioning units. The units don’t run at the same time unless needed.
