Tuesday news

The next OBC meeting is Thursday, May 1st, 6 p.m. at City Hall.
We are having the OBC meeting a week earlier than planned because we have invited Jeff Jensen with Trees Forever to join us to join us at 4:00pm for a tour of the town. If anyone would like to join us at that time we plan on meeting at City Hall @ 4pm. Otherwise the meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

You Are Invited To An 1880’s Victorian High Tea In Odebolt

The Rural Legacy Project Steering Committee, assisted by the Odebolt Questers, will be presenting the opportunity to experience a Victorian Afternoon. It will take place in Odebolt on Saturday, May 10th, and is designed for the area grandmothers, mothers, and daughters, of all ages.

The Victorian High Tea will be served in the Fellowship Hall of the Odebolt First Presbyterian Church, starting at 2:00 p.m.  Lunch with fancy sandwiches, tea cakes and sweets will be served.

We encourage all who attend to feel free to wear period clothing to make the experience more complete!  Also, the younger “ladies” are also asked to bring along their special dolls.  We will offer an explanation of Victorian influences in dress, dolls, and building styles as well as in the styles of writing and social interactions of the period.

There will be the High Tea, and some special activities for the daughters, for the price of a free will donation at the door.   Funds collected will go toward the continued development of the Heritage Square of Odebolt on Second Street.

Both the Peterson Pioneer Home and the Iowa Rural Schools Museum will be open for tours and other activities after the Tea and until 4:00 p.m.

Please make plans now to join us the afternoon of May 10th in Odebolt!

Arbor Day Tree Planting
The OA Fifth Grade participated in planting a Black Hills Spruce in recognition of Arbor Day, 2014, near the Odebolt Memorial Walk and RV Park.  Lorne Miller, District Conservationist, USDA-NRCS for Ida and Crawford Co. and the Ida County Pheasants Forever sponsored the project. Fifth Grade instructor, Brett Benson; substitute teacher Kris Genderson; and Memorial Walk member, Elaine Rex assisted.  The students learned how to plant a tree and how to care for it.  Each one was given a tree to take home and plant.
