Odebolt donation:   The Odebolt Fire Department received a $2,500 America’s Farmers Grow Communities Monsanto Fund $2,500 donation last week. Monsanto donates $2,500 to 289 counties each year. Lester and Linda Siebrecht of Odebolt were the Sac County winner and asked that the donation be given to the Odebolt Fire Department. Odebolt native is new Ida County deputy
New deputy: Mike Stehr began his duties as an Ida County deputy Feb. 3.

Mike Stehr, 34, of rural Cushing began his duties as an Ida County deputy Feb. 3.

Stehr was born and raised in Odebolt, where he graduated from Odebolt-Arthur High School in 1997. He graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College’s Regional Law Enforcement Academy in Sioux City in 2003.

Prior to beginning work as an Ida County deputy, Stehr was employed with the Correctionville-Anthon Police Department since 2003. Stehr said, “Law enforcement is something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Stehr and wife, Kim (Babcock), are the parents of sons Gavin (eight) and Tate ( ive). His parents are Bill and Kathy Stehr of Odebolt.

Stehr’s starting salary is $40,000. He fills one of two openings left with the retirement of Deputy Randy Petersen and resignation of Deputy Matt Cook.


OPERA Iowa coming to Holstein, Odebolt
OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe, a program of Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc., has taken to the road for its 2014 tour.

The group will perform John Davies’ The Three Little Pigs, a telling of the classic fairy tale through the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a reduced version for ive singers of Gaetano Donizetti’s romantic comedy The Elixir of Love.

OPERA Iowa will visit nearly 70 schools and communities this spring, including Holstein and Odebolt.

The number of children served and the statewide span of its efforts make the OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe Iowa’s largest and most comprehensive effort in music education. The school performances are presented in conjunction with interactive workshops that meet the National Standards for Arts in Education guidelines.
