Community Basket

Edited from The Parish Visitor, newsletter of Faith Lutheran Church, Odebolt.

Community Basket is made up of the seven communities of Arthur, Battle Creek, Galva, Holstein, Ida Grove, Kiron, and Odebolt. Our main focus is on the mobile pantry held on the third Thursday of each month in one of the communities.  The site pantry is located in Ida Grove and is supported by product gifts of area churches and with items left from the mobile site.

This year the Community Basket provided both Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets (people could sign up for one or the other). The Thanksgiving baskets were supported by area congregations and as the names were gathered each community took responsibility of distribution for their communities. There were 69 Thanksgiving Baskets that were given out.

The Community Basket took on the responsibility of providing the food for the Christmas Baskets, which were distributed at the mobile site in Battle Creek. There were 94 baskets distributed.

The mobile site continues to reach a larger group of people as more people are facing food insecurity, especially as food stamps were cut across the board. For some families it means it was cut by 50% or more.  In November we served 120 plus households and in December we served 139 households.

Community Basket Mobile Food Pantry will be at the HOLSTEIN METHODIST CHURCH - THURSDAY JANUARY 16; doors open at 4:30pm.  Click here for information flyer

Community Basket Food Pantry, located in the basement of the Medical Arts Building in Ida Grove (across from the hospital), is open from 1-4pm each Thursday.  A household may use that site once a month along with the mobile pantry.
