Jesse Sharp honor guard for JFK

(Excerpt) As word spread of the shooting, then death, of President John F. Kennedy, a nation went into shock.  Americans from coast to coast cried, left work, sat in stunned silence.

Jesse Sharp had no time for any of that.

As the nation reacted to the shocking news, Sharp was mustered into action. He and the rest of 2nd Platoon, Honor Guard Company of the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Battalion immediately began learning the silent 21-step procedure of posting and changing the Guard of Honor, the around-the-clock duty of keeping watch over Kennedy's casket.

(Sharp moved to Odebolt in 1990 and now lives in Columbus, NE.)
