‘High School Musical’ rehearsals underway
Disney Channel’s smash hit musical is coming to life at O-A/BC-IG High. Troy, Gabriella and the students of East High must deal with issues of first love, friends, and family while balancing their classes and extracurricular activities.

It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes ind their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year.

Basketball team captain and resident jock Troy (Ronnie Sutton) discovers that the brainy Gabriella (Laurel Bengford), a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the school musical led by Ms. Darbus (Trisha Hayward). Many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo”--especially Sharpay (Kaylea Killian) and Ryan (Austin Sadler), but Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

“High School Musical” is fun for the whole family. It’s large cast size and upbeat numbers will make this a show you won’t want to miss. Production dates are Nov. 9 and 10, and the show is directed by Ann Holst, Eric Wells and Patty Nelson. Watch for more details on time, place and ticket information.   (See the complete cast listing in the Ida County Courier.)

COMMUNITY MOBILE FOOD PANTRY
Community Basket is a mobile food pantry being brought to our area by the communities of Holstein, Galva, Cushing, Ida Grove, Arthur, Odebolt, Battle Creek, and Kiron, by community leaders and Siouxland Food Bank. A Mobile Pantry is like a market on wheels. Food Bank of Siouxland’s Mobile Food Pantry Program: Food to You is a traveling pantry that delivers nutritious food quickly and directly to communities.  These deliveries include fresh produce and refrigerated items.

Benefits of a Mobile Pantry:
1. A mobile pantry is an effective and fast way of distributing food, and maintaining an atmosphere of dignity.
2. It targets rural areas, or pockets of great need that are difficult to access.
3. It travels to areas where it is difficult to maintain an agency partner.
4. Builds community.
5. Feeds the needy.

In 2010 close to half a million Iowans were classified as “food insecure” by the USDA. Food insecure is defined as the lack of money to adequately feed oneself or one's family. Using the statistics for Ida County residents, even though not all the communities are in Ida County, 52% of residents live in poverty and 63.4% of residents live with food insecurity.  For children, 62%  live in poverty and 73.7% live with food insecurity in Ida County. These figures are frightening and we as communities have the ability to help them.

As we begin to organize into a board for our cluster, we will be looking to people of each community to form a community team to help with fundraising, food drives and hosting the food distribution when we are in your town.

In partnership with Siouxland Food Bank, we will be able to purchase about 13 pounds of food for $1.00. The day of the Community Basket, Siouxland Food Bank will deliver the food to the site. It will be unloaded and made ready for distribution. The amount of food each household receives is based on the number of people in the household, not on income. When a person registers to pick up food, they will be asked for the number in the household, adults and children, and town.  Then they will be shown a chart and asked if their household income falls below the line on the chart. If so, it will be recorded for Siouxland Food Bank's reporting purposes. All information is kept confidential.  No one will be turned away from receiving food.

At this point we are in the very initial stage of organizing our cluster. Our first distribution is scheduled for September 20th from 4:30-6:00 at the Arthur Community Center. If you would like to make a financial donation you may do so at any of our area congregations by marking it for mobile food pantry. Monies will be deposited to a special checking account.  All monies raised will stay within our cluster. At this point we estimate it will cost us about $200.00 a month.

For more information, you may contact Pastor Trish Underberg of Faith Lutheran of Odebolt and Bethel Lutheran of Kiron at 668-4515 or Kris Gunderson 675-4401.
