BC-IG, O-A voters turn down consolidation
Battle Creek-Ida Grove and Odebolt-Arthur voters defeated their first attempt at a consolidation last Tuesday during school board elections. Three BC-IG incumbent board members favoring the consolidation were also defeated by their challengers. Following are unofficial results.
The consolidation was voted down in BC-IG with 567 no votes and 517 yes votes. No votes tallied 369 in Battle Creek, 184 in Ida Grove and 14 absentee. Yes votes tallied 42 in Battle Creek, 451 in Ida Grove and 24 absentee.
The consolidation was also voted down at O-A with 384 no votes and 256 yes votes. No votes tallied 320 in Odebolt, 39 in Arthur and 25 absentee. Yes votes totaled 187 in Odebolt, 58 in Arthur and 11 absentee.
BC-IG and O-A are in their third year of a three-year wholegrade sharing agreement. The agreement will automatically be renewed each year, unless either or both boards choose to end it.
If the boards choose, a second consolidation petition may be submitted to the AEA in six months. Election dates available for a second vote are April 3 and Sept. 11, 2012, for a consolidation effective in 2013-14.
O-A had four openings and no races. Incumbents Traci Bengford received 523 votes, Paul Neumann received 353 votes and Brad Lundell received 375 votes. New member Pat Hoefling received 448 votes.

Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center
New events coming up are:
Oct. 6 is decorating the dining and living rooms for Halloween,
Oct. 10 is the day for doing the scarecrows,
Oct. 20 at 2:15 p.m. residents will be decorating the pumpkins
Oct. 27 at 10:30 a.m. is craft time.
Oct. 31 Trick or treat for the kids at 3:45 p.m.;bagging the candy for that is at 2 p.m. Help is always needed to help residents hand out candy.
A new sound system has been ordered and the ONRC Auxiliary will help pay for it. The next auxiliary meeting is Oct. 20 at 9 a.m., with Irma Gustafson serving.
Odebolt sewer lines to be cleaned
Rehab Systems, Inc. will be cleaning the sanitary sewer main line in Odebolt Sept. 26, 27, 28 and 29. During the work, Rehab Systems recommends residents keep their toilet lids down and pour water down unused plumbing fixtures (sinks, showers, toilets, etc.) and basement floor drains to minimize the potential of any odor entering your residence.
Bessie Ries Services Held
HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – Services for Bessie Reis, 101, of Hot Springs, S.D., formerly of Odebolt, were Sept. 17, 2011, at Odebolt Cemetery in Odebolt. Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt was in charge of arrangements. She died July 21, 2011, at Hot Springs, S.D.

Odebolt Museum update
The Odebolt Museum Board continued the second phase of its project to restore the museum building at Second and Maple Streets Thursday, [September 15, 2011] with the replacement of eight windows on the second story. Future phases involve opening the front fourth of the first floor to expose the tin ceiling, restoring the stair railings to gain public access to the upstairs and remodeling the upstairs for more display space.
The museum is open throughout the year by appointment. The Odebolt Museum Board is accepting donations to help with the remodeling costs. Donations may be sent to: Odebolt Museum, P.O. Box 362, Odebolt, Iowa 51458.
