Faith Lutheran Church, ELCA of Odebolt and Bethel Lutheran Church, ELCA of Kiron will be hosting a benefit concert for Western Iowa Lutheran Disaster Response on Saturday, August 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 708 Locust St., Odebolt, IA with a Free Will Offering. There will be supplemental funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. All the monies raised will be given to Lutheran Disaster Response of Western Iowa Synod, ELCA, which is a part of Lutheran Disaster Response. Lutheran Disaster Response seeks to demonstrate Christ's compassion for all people by promoting hope, healing, and wholeness for disaster survivors.
Natural disasters continue to affect thousands of Iowans and in their paths leave devastation, destruction and loss. This spring and summer has hit Western Iowa extremely hard. Iowa Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) continues to mobilize long-term recovery efforts for those affected by the ongoing floods, powerful tornadoes and other storms that have ravaged the state.
Your generosity is appreciated as LDR prepares to provide long-term recovery efforts that are needed long after the waters have receded and the storms have passed. This long-term recovery response is critical to assisting communities and community members in rebuilding their lives. Long-term recovery teams are being put in place in the Mapleton, Sioux City and Council Bluffs area. These teams are made up of people from Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster. If the team is not up and working you may contact the Western Iowa Synod of the ELCA at 712-732-4968.
LDR is currently seeking donations to help meet the needs of Iowans living here in the western part of the state. Tax-deductible donations can be made to LDR online at: www.wisynod.org or by mail to: Western Iowa Synod of the ELCA. Please designate your donation with the words “disaster response.”
All monies raised will stay in the western part of the state helping to provide immediate help or for the long-time work that will need to happen in many communities. All people are helped as much as possible with unmet needs.
This concert came to be from a committee at Faith Lutheran who were talking about how to reach out not just to people in our community but to those in the area who were affected by the disasters. Working with our sister congregation, Bethel Lutheran, one thing led to another and we are excited to have Larry Olson and Hans Peterson from Dakota Road Music with us for this event. Larry and Hans are partners in Dakota Road Music, a songwriting, publishing, leadership and performance company that specializes in original faith-filled music. Hans and Larry have the creative talents of music leadership, a passion for justice and a vision for the church and neighborhood as welcoming places. They live in the confidence that "to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good" (I Cor 12:7). It is this trust and their stirring original music that has put them at the center of a movement to include a diversity of musical gifts in congregational life. Individually and with their band Dakota Road they have released over a dozen recordings with many of their songs being sung all across the U.S. and beyond.
The public is invited to come and join us for a wonderful evening of music and to help those in need. The concert will be outside, weather permitting, or inside, and you are invited to bring your lawn chairs/blankets to sit on. There will be hotdogs, chips, pop and water available. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the premises.
