STATEMENT FROM FEMA REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR BETH FREEMAN ON IOWA TORNADOES AND SEVERE WEATHER
“On behalf of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), I would like to express our concern to the residents of communities that were impacted by Saturday evening’s tornadoes in northwest Iowa. Also, I would like to commend the work of the local and state first responders for the measures taken in the aftermath of the storms to protect lives and provide immediate assistance during this difficult time.
FEMA has been in constant contact with Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management (IHSEMD) since the severe weather hit, and we stand ready to assist if requested. The state continues to assess the needs of the communities impacted. Iowans should continue to listen to instructions from their local leaders on seeking assistance and stay alert to weather conditions as additional severe weather is possible today.”
