Community Basket
What an exciting 2015 year for the Community Basket-Ida! As I faxed reports to the FoodBank of
Siouxland, we reported 1,314 families receiving baskets of food this year with 3,384 individuals being served. This is our unduplicated count. In reality, we provided over 1,500 baskets of food to our families in our seven communities.
99% of all money received goes toward the purchasing of food. We have minor expenses such as stamps, freezer bags, a new vacuum for the site pantry and from the $1,000 grant we received, we bought a new refrigerator and had to pay $103 more to Brenners. So thankful for all the volunteers who gave countless hours to make the Community Basket come together to help those with food insecurities!
Site pantry report for December, 2015: 22 families were served with 8 being duplicates. Duplicates mean the family attended both the mobile and site pantry for a food basket. The site pantry was opened for only two Thursdays in December. Our site pantry will be open on the first, second, and fourth Thursday in January. Our site pantry has been blessed with several food drives. The shelves are teeming with food as are the freezers.
Mobile Distribution in Kiron: We served 93 families with 42 volunteers. Todd Botcher of Galva provided 160 plus dozen eggs. We had Avon products packaged for our families from Phyllis Groth. Beneta Witt of Battle Creek had donated baby wipe packages to our families with young babies, and we continue to share these at our mobile. We are so blessed with these extra commodities to share. We purchased FFA fruit (oranges & apples) from OABCIG to give to our families. We also provided hams for each family.
The report to the FoodBank of Siouxland for the month of December - 107 unduplicated families and 292 unduplicated individuals.
Our January 21 mobile will be held in Galva at the United Methodist Church. Pre-orders due Monday, Jan. 18. Our reps. deliver these heavy baskets and only have so much space in their vehicles.
