School Will Be Opening Soon!
Don’t panic, OABCIGers! You still have your summer vacation ahead of you!
What we mean is, the Iowa Rural Schools Museum of Odebolt will be officially opening its doors for visiting, viewing, and reminiscing!
The festivities will begin on Saturday, June 15th, at 10:30 a.m. with the Grand Opening Ceremonies directly outside of the School Building on Second Street of Odebolt. There will be a tent for the speakers and a number of folks and about 50 chairs will be provided. It might be wise to have a lawn chair along.
There will be presentations of folks who have been directly involved in the funding of the Rural Legacy Project through Grants and donations, those who have donated greatly their time, artifacts, and dollars to the cause of having a first class Rural Schools Museum, the unveiling of a beautiful statue, "Late to School", and dignitaries who will be able to be with us. Should the weather be an issue of comfort, we will conduct the proceedings in the Fire Station, a block away.
Also on tap for the weekend, is a get-together for ALL students of Country or Rural School in Iowa … not just this particular building … former teachers in any Country School, and the 4-Hers who had their meetings in Richland #1 after it “retired” from holding classes.
The event will be on June 14th, Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Odebolt Fellowship Hall. We will have a light meal, a short presentation, and LOTS of reminiscing about “school days” in a Country School building.
Because of the meal preparations, we would ask you to call Jim Meyer at 668-4184 to make your reservations. We hope you will help us celebrate this momentous occasion!
Any Questions or comments, call Carol Raasch 712-668-4285.
