Hike-Bike set for May 1
The 19th annual Whitey Thompson Hike-Bike-A-Thon is set for next Wednesday, May 1, 1:45 p. m., starting at Skate Palace in Ida Grove. The event is sponsored by United Bank of Iowa and the O-A/ BC-IG Dollars for Scholars Foundation.Hike-Bike gives preschool through high school students an opportunity to help raise funds for scholarships presented by the O-A/BC-IG Dollars For Scholars Foundation. Friends and relatives sponsor the students by making donations to the Foundation.
Last year, there were 671 participants, raising more than $70,000. Overall, the Foundation has awarded $1,968,218 in scholarships to 796 BC-IG and 208 O-A/ BC-IG graduates.
Parenting class offered
O-A/BC-IG Schools and New Opportunities announce that Joleen Brady is an independent facilitator presenting “Parenting-The Love and Logic Way.”Classes are May 6, 13 and 20, 6-7:30 p. m., at the middle school library in Odebolt. A snack will be provided, and childcare services will be available. The class is supported by a Decat Neighborhood Networking Mini Grant.

Alan Schmidt of Arthur will retire in May after spending 39 years in the education field.
(Excerpt) He spent 31 years at Odebolt-Arthur High School in Odebolt, teaching ninth grade science, biology, environmental science, chemistry, human anatomy, elementary physical education (a couple of years), served as high school head wrestling coach for 26 years and was National Honor Society advisor for two years.Schmidt’s last four years have been at O-A/BC-IG High School, teaching four years of ninth grade science, one year of biology and three years of chemistry.
Along with teaching, he helps his brother on the family farm and looks forward to being on the farm during the daylight hours and not trying to get my farm work done at night or on Saturdays.

Odebolt Nursing & Rehab celebrates Nursing Home Week
National Nursing Home Week is May 12-18. On Monday, May 13, the balloon lift-off is at 2:15 p. m., with an ice cream social at 2:45 p. m. On Wednesday, May 15, the community cookout is from 5 to 6:30 p. m. On Thursday, May 16, the mother-daughter-friend tea is at 2:30 p. m. The next meeting is May 16.
