Sac Soil & Water Conservation Present Awards
The Sac County Soil & Water Conservation District handed out several awards on March 26th during a ceremony at the Haye Loft restaurant in Wall Lake. Jerilyn and Kenny Ekstrom of Odebolt received the Windbreak Award. Their windbreak was planted in 1996 on the north side of their homestead southeast of Odebolt. Through the years, the Ekstroms have taken care of the windbreak carefully, keeping the trees and bushes pruned and shaped. The award was presented by Roger Buehler, Sac SWCD Commissioner.
Social Host Ordinance proposed for Sac
A Social Host Ordinance has been proposed by the Sac County Coalition to reduce underage and binge drinking pursuant to a Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF SIG) awarded to Sac County by the state of Iowa. The grant was awarded to Sac County based on its ranking of twelfth out of 99 counties in the prevalence and need for prevention of underage drinking.
The Ordinances hold non-commercial individuals responsible for underage drinking on private property they own, lease or otherwise control. Read the entire article in The Chronicle.
