Easter Activities

ONRC is sponsoring a coloring contest for zero to two year olds, three to four year olds, five and six year olds and seven to nine year olds. Coloring pages can be picked up at the nursing home, Odebolt businesses and churches. Children are to submit their pictures as soon as possible and the public is invited to vote on their favorite picture up until March 30. Winners will be announced following the egg hunt.

Children are invited inside for cookies, popcorn and juice following the hunt.

O-A/BC-IG Foundation Follies draws 250

The O-A/BC-IG Dollars for Scholars Foundation presented its talent show and service auction, “The Foundation Follies,” on Saturday, March 9, at 7 p. m., at the high school.

Becky Ricklefs, coordinator for the event, reported attendance was estimated at 250 people. There was a variety of talent including two oratory presentations, seven comedy routines, 12 vocal performances, three piano performances, six dance acts and one fiddle performance.

A total of 85 students participated; some shared a talent or donated to the service auction; others helped set up, clean up, take tickets, serve refreshments or help with the sound, stage, lights and dance floor. All these students will get points from the scholarship foundation for helping with the event.

Other volunteers were Ann Holst for keeping it running smoothly back stage, Eric Wells for managing the sound, Pat Broderson for janitorial needs and Horn Memorial Hospital for donating the cookies.

The scholarship foundation appreciates the support from parents of the students, as well as the businesses and community members who supported the service auction.

Letter to editor:

In recent years, the role of the Odebolt Public Library has evolved into one of the central hubs of Odebolt. The handicap-accessible library has a varying array of things to offer, which perhaps not all of the public is aware.

In addition to adult large-print and children books, the library offers two local newspapers, books on CD, Wilbor (books online), magazines, the newest movie releases and four public computers and drop boxes.

Available at a small fee are the fax machine and color copier. The library can get almost any book you want through Access Plus, if we do not have it.

The meeting room and kitchen can be rented out at any time. The maximum amount of people it holds is 50. The kitchen is fully furnished, including range, frig and microwave. The room itself has eight card tables, two long tables, chairs and a 62-inch lat screen TV.

Activities at the library include a Thursday afternoon after-school kids’ program, summer reading program, Tuesday evening euchre, Friday afternoon coffee social time and, soon to be starting, Tuesday matinee movies for the community. In addition, on Wednesdays, the preschool and pre-kindergarten walk to the library for story time and check out books.

Our newest and largest project to benefit everyone was the installation of a generator. In case of an emergency, the library will be open with heat and electricity. It is hoped this will never have to be used, but what a great asset it is for everyone.

If you have never been to the Odebolt Library, take time to stop and browse. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 2 -6 p. m., Wednesday 10 a. m. -noon and 2 -7:30 p. m., and Saturday 9 a. m. to noon. We enjoy seeing new faces walk in the door.

Donarae Cleveland
Odebolt Library director
