Give Daffodils. Give Hope.
Spring will be a welcome sight this year - and so will American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days! Sac County residents have until February 19 to place their orders for daffodils, one of the first flowers of spring and a symbol of hope in the fight against cancer.
The proceeds help fund the American Cancer Society's mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy and patient service programs.
Make a minimum $10 donation to the American Cancer Society to receive a bunch of approximately 10 daffodils. For a $25 donation the Gift of Hope bouquet is delivered anonymously to local cancer patients who are receiving treatment. This year also features a bunch and a vase - $15; dainty daffodils - $15; bear and a bunch - $25; and a sunshine bouquet - $75.
To place your order, please contact Ellen Buehler, Odebolt.
Aerial Seeding and Fertilizing Set to Begin
Aviation contractors hired by the Iowa Department of Transportation will be performing aerial seeding and fertilizing along the state's highways as soon as weather permits.
This method of roadside erosion control has been used by the Iowa DOT for many years because of its cost-saving benefits, ability to cover vast areas and success rate. Seed is best applied in the late winter months so that it will germinate in the spring.
The following aerial seeding projects are presently scheduled to be completed in February and March.
U.S. 20 in Calhoun and Sac counties, from one mile west of Early east to the intersection of U.S. 20 and Iowa 4.
Iowa 196 in Sac County, north from Sac County Road D-36 (former U.S. 20) to relocated U.S. 20.
